NYC Council Introduction 780

intro.nyc/0780-2026 2026-2029 Legislative Session
Requiring the police department to publish daily maps depicting collisions involving department vehicles and locations where department vehicles exceeded the speed limit.
Status: Committee Committee on Public Safety
Sponsored by Yusef Salaam
Introduced: March 10, 2026

This bill would require the New York City Police Department (NYPD) to collect the speed at which each NYPD vehicle travels whenever it is in motion. NYPD, in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications, would then be required to compare the speed of each NYPD vehicle to the speed limit along each portion of the vehicle’s route. Locations where NYPD vehicles exceeded the speed limit would be illustrated on a map, along with locations where a moving NYPD vehicle is involved in a collision. NYPD would be required to publish these maps daily on its website showing speeding and collisions.
