Status: Committee Committee on Parks and Recreation
Sponsored by Yusef Salaam
Introduced: September 10, 2026

This bill would require the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation (Commissioner) to inspect each public drinking fountain to evaluate its condition and functionality and test the water from the fountain at least twice per year, and to maintain an online drinking fountains map that would include for each drinking fountain: (i) the location; (ii) the date the fountain was most recently inspected; (iii) the condition of the fountain, including whether it is functional or out of service; (iv) whether the fountain is routinely shut off during certain seasons, and if so, the dates during which it is shut off; (v) the date the water from the fountain was most recently tested; and (vi) the results of the most recent test of the water. The Commissioner would be required to post and update signage at each drinking fountain stating whether the water is safe to drink, the date the water from the fountain was most recently tested, and a QR code containing a link to access the online map.
