intro.nyc/0079-2024 2024-2025 Legislative Session
Installation of pedestrian lighting fixtures.
Status: Laid Over in Committee Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure
Sponsored by Lincoln Restler
Introduced: February 8, 2024

This bill would require the commissioner of transportation to install lighting fixtures specifically designed to illuminate sidewalks for pedestrians in no fewer than 500 commercial corridors per year, until the entire sidewalk in each commercial corridor is illuminated to a minimum of 1 footcandle (11 lux). If possible, at least 450 of the selected commercial corridors must be contiguous to at least one other commercial corridor that either has been selected for installation of pedestrian lighting fixtures in the same year or already has sufficient lighting.
